In a recent trip to visit my parents, I made a great discovery. I was packing up some odds and ends of mine that my parents had run across when I found an old relic of mine. Inside my old tackle box was a US Navy survival knife made by Camillus. I've been searching all morning for info on the knife with no luck. I'll post some pics soon. The knife sat in the bottom of that tackle box for who knows how long (I think I bought it from Smokey Mountain Knife Works at around the age of 14. Who knows how old the thing is, as it was leftover surplus when I bought it 11 years ago.
Other than needing some oil on the leather handle and sheath, the knife was in perfect shape. Still razor sharp and not a spot of rust on it. Among the priceless finds was my old Estwing hachet, with my name and the date (12-25-1995) that my dad gave it to me.
Neither of these items were cheap, an estwing tool will run you about $30-$45 and I remember paying well over $70 for the knife. On the other hand, how much wal-mart crapsteel do you have that's 10 years old? Not much, I'd wager.
